zinnias, and the throw away society

The summer Saturday Division street market closes at 1 post meridian and at about approaching this hour some of the produce is greatly reduced - the Zinnias after spending the morning in the hot sun are one dollar a bunch and I buy 7 , take them home and spend an hour sorting them, trimming them and arranging them - throwing out the pile of leaves, spent flowers, rubberbands, and cellophane. The flowers are happy. I begin a still life. After 2 days they are wilted and by the third nitrogen smells abound.
